General Information

- A larger diameter body with an easy-to-unlatch design.
- A substantial historical install base and a reputation as a generally reliable unit in its time.
Production of this model has ceased.
COMMON ISSUES & EXPIRY
- Broken plastic hinges become a frequent issue on units over 7 years old.
- The central test/hush button can become stiff or stick as the alarm ages, especially if not regularly maintained.
Maintenance recommendations:
- Inspect the smoke alarm monthly.
- Vacuum or gently brush away dust, dirt, kitchen grease, or accumulated debris.
- Apply a small amount of surface insect spray around (not directly on) the alarm to help deter insect ingress.
Like all smoke alarms, this model has a 10-year service life. All installed units are now expired and must be replaced to maintain effective fire detection.
How to Open
The Clipsal Firetek 755SMA has a side based push button release. It will then unlatch on plastice hinges. Providing access to the battery compartment and label details.
Our Opinion
This was once a widely installed and dependable ionisation smoke alarm, benefiting from its larger size and straightforward unlatching mechanism. However, its reliance on older ionisation technology, combined with age-related issues (particularly stiff test/hush buttons and fragile hinges), and the fact that production has ended and all units are now expired, means it no longer meets modern safety expectations.
We recommend full replacement with current photoelectric smoke alarms for improved detection of both flaming and smouldering fires, better long-term reliability, and compliance with present-day standards and insurance requirements.
