COMMON ISSUES & EXPIRY

Householders commonly needed advice on how to changeover backup battery. It is also common to get enquiries because the occupant could not fit the unit back onto the ceiling base.

How to Open

This unit needs care to unlatch. Always turn of power before attempting it. It is a 3 step process. 1. twist 2. unscrew and unattach the power lead on the underside of the smoke alarm. 3. Lift the battery compartment lid. NB… the alarm can be diffiult to refit back onto ceiling base after a battery changeover.

Our Opinion

A large install base. Was a reliable unit. But an older design style that made householders uncomfortable in changing over backup batteries. Also exposes ceiling hole into roof space when unit is removed off its base. That can result in dust or insulation falling out. Based on its longevity and performance it rates high but all units now expired and with its awkward fitting we would rate it 4/10 overall.
