General Information
Omega Power Exit EXI-3786PHM2 is a surface mount Mains Power Photoelectric Smoke Alarm with 9V battery backup
COMMON ISSUES & EXPIRY
- The unlatching slide mechanism is often very stiff, making removal for battery changes or cleaning difficult and frustrating.
- Units can experience beeping without any actual trigger (false or nuisance alarms).
- Like all smoke alarms, this model has a maximum service life of 10 years.
- The EXI-3786PHM 2 is now an older model, so most installed units are expired (or approaching expiry) and should be replaced for reliable protection.
- The manufacture date is printed on the label in DDMMYYYY format, allowing easy checking of a unit’s age on site.
Technicians and residents frequently report the side latch design as a significant usability flaw.
How to Open
To open the EXI-3786PHM2, press the 1cm-wide latch on the side of the alarm, with the moulded arrow indicating slide direction. NB… very stiff to move. This will release the unit from its ceiling base and disconnect mains power. The alarm will hang down on small plastic hinges, giving access to the battery compartment and label details.
Our Opinion
The stiff unlatching mechanism and occasional untriggered beeping make this model inconvenient and unreliable in everyday use. Combined with its age and the now-expired status of most units, these persistent design issues heavily outweigh any earlier positives.
Based on its track record and user experience, we rate the EXI-3786PHM2 3 out of 10. We do not recommend retaining or installing this model—replacement with a modern smoke alarm is strongly advised for better usability, reliability, and safety compliance.
